DESCRIPTION
During the great droid making reconnaissance Companion Droids were extremely popular, being manufactured in large numbers. They were produced in a variety of designs and model types. Dogs, cats, rabbits were very popular, as were of course, teddy bears.
Many units were bought for both children and indeed adults to act as company or to be a personal friend. The first designs had speech modules and were able to respond to their owners through simple algorithmic programming. These would be a passive listening droids capable of processing what they were told and then providing basic movement responses.
More advanced units could be character programmed to suit their owners requirements e.g. humourous, serious, compassionate, considerate, humble etc.
Later developments included learning AI which allowed basic cognitive functioning enabling some reasoning, remembering, learning words and using language. Later units rather than being inanimate objects, were articulated and could move. Some of the more advanced designs were able to walk and could follow their owners.
